UPS Ground Saver

By Last updated on: October 31, 2024

UPS Ground Saver, “UPS-GS,” service is currently available for packages with an origin and destination within the 48 contiguous United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, U.S. Territories, and to U.S. Post Office Boxes. It is not available for international packages. UPS Ground Saver is basically a new name for UPS Surepost offered by third-party vendors such as Shipstation and Shippo.

UPS Ground Saver service is available to customers only for packages processed through a partner platform authorized to process such packages. While UPS-GS moves throughout the UPS network and will be delivered by UPS or, in some cases, handed to the local Post Office for last-mile delivery by USPS. It’s important to note that Ground Saver packages can only be dropped off or picked up with UPS. Despite the USPS barcode on the label, UPS-GS packages cannot be dropped off with USPS.

UPS Ground Saver

What are the basics of UPS Ground Saver?

Here are the main points about UPS Ground Saver:

  • Only packages for residential addresses.
  • The time and date of delivery for any package tendered for UPS Ground Saver service is not guaranteed.
  • There is only one delivery attempt on each package.

Limitation on Liability

However, that coverage only applies to the portion of the journey when UPS has the package. If USPS takes over delivery for the “last mile,” UPS isn’t responsible, and that $100 of carrier liability no longer exists. Whenever goods are damaged or lost in the course of transportation by UPS and a valid claim has been filed, UPS will pay, at its option, the lowest of the following: the actual cost of the goods, the repair cost, the replacement cost, or one hundred dollars ($100). Notwithstanding anything herein to the contrary, UPS shall have no liability for any loss of, or damage to, any goods while in the care, custody, or control of the USPS or any other third party.
