The 2025 FedEx general rate increase is on January 6th, 2025. FedEx Express shipping rates will increase by an average of 5.9% for Domestic, Export, and Import services. FedEx SmartPost and FedEx One Rate shipping rates will also increase; we will explore those increases in a future blog.
The 2025 FedEx GRI matches the 5.9% average in 2022 and 2024. While this may seem moderate compared to the 6.9% hike in 2023, it’s important to note that this 5.9% increase is still tied for the second-highest ever and is above the typical annual increase of 4.9% seen in previous years. Despite the overall GRI, most FedEx customers can expect their costs to rise by more than 5.9%, depending on their shipping patterns and the services they frequently use.

FedEx focuses its most significant price hikes on the services and surcharges customers use the most. For instance, in 2024, many customers experienced an average increase of 7.5%, which was well above the GRI. This disparity occurs because FedEx applies smaller increases to less commonly used services and zones, lowering the average GRI and applying steeper hikes to widely used services. This strategic pricing approach often results in higher actual shipping costs for most customers despite the seemingly moderate average increase.
The chart above illustrates the 2025 FedEx price increase over the 2024 published rates for each domestic service. The most significant increases are 2-Day A.M. and Express Saver packages.
Express Saver delivers businesses by 4:30 p.m. and residences by 8 p.m. in three business days. Many eCommerce sellers use Express Saver to meet the demands of today’s online buyers. FedEx Ground & Home Delivery Rate Increases
The chart above illustrates the price increase in 2025 for FedEx Ground packages according to weight and zone. The higher the zone, the higher the effective price increase. Ground will encounter the highest increases at greater zone distances and for heavier-weight packages.
FedEx Home Delivery has rates identical to FedEx Ground packages. But, there is an additional charge since the final delivery is to a residence. Therefore, Home Delivery packages are billed as if they were Ground packages but will see an extra $6.55 residential surcharge.
FedEx Domestic Express Rate Increases
The chart below shows the average price increase for all zones and weights for each Express domestic service. The Second Day and Express Saver package increases are the highest. FedEx Second Day and Express Saver see their highest shipment increases in zones 5 to 8.
As all the charts show, FedEx 2-day A.M. and Express Saver have the highest 2025 FedEx Rate Increase. The increase mimics the higher zone increases for Ground and Home Delivery packages.

Other 2025 FedEx Changes
FedEx surcharges are increasing between 6% and 27%. The most common surcharges (residential and DAS) are seeing an average increase of 12%. Oversize and additional handling surcharges will increase by 27% in 2025.
Effective Oct. 14, 2024 – Some surcharges will be added to the list of fuel-applicable surcharges for U.S. domestic package services. These include address corrections, additional handling, demand surcharges, and many others.
