We at Refund Retriever like to give back each year. We participate in Cystic Fibrosis Foundation fundraising events such as Great Strides and Shoot 4 The Cure.
What is Cystic Fibrosis (CF)?
According to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, “Cystic fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time.” It also comes with additional challenges, such as difficulty keeping on enough weight, diabetes, and more.
According to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Patient Registry, in the United States:
- More than 30,000 people are living with cystic fibrosis (more than 70,000 worldwide).
- Approximately 1,000 new cases of CF are diagnosed each year.
- More than 75 percent of people with CF are diagnosed by age 2.
- More than half of the CF population is age 18 or older.
Why Refund Retriever Gives Back to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation?
Our very own refund geek, Billy, was diagnosed with CF at age 13. Though many with CF must make their medical care a full-time job, Billy has been fortunate enough to pursue passions like software development, while understanding and remaining committed to the challenges that others with CF face. Even so, every day he takes dozens of pills, injections, and breathing treatments just to maintain that health, and the occasional hospitalization isn’t rare enough.
Billy is our Director of Technology and since 2009 has been responsible for Refund Retriever’s technology solution, focusing on its growth, stability, and security of customer data.
